Obstacles For a Blended Family

What is a blended family? That is when two people get together and live together and each has kids. You do not necessarily have to be married. You can just be living together. The main thing is that you are combining half of one family with half of another family to make it one. This can present problems. We are going to look at some of these problems.

Problem 1 - One of the parents from one side of this newly formed unit does to much and the kids do absolutely nothing. They sit on their butts and watch TV. They come and eat when dinner is ready. They then just throw their dishes in the sink for someone else to take care of. This is the fault of the parent. Mom or dad may be feeling a bit of guilt for what she or her former spouse has done. Therefore, he or she does everything for the kid. The kid can 6 years old to a teenager to one that is in their 20's. All this will do is aggravate and make the other part of the new family unit resentful. How do I know this? I live it. This is especially true if the person that gets stuck with the work is not the child's parent.

Problem 2- Lack of respect. Since the kid can get away with not doing anything, when asked to do something they simply divert. What do I mean by that? If the parent of the kid asks them to do something, they will make wise cracks trying to be funny. This will definitely get on the other parents nerves. In fact, the kid will not stop until the parent gives in and does the chore himself or herself. Now the kid has learned how to manipulate the parent. Again, totally the parents fault.

Problem 3- The kid never completes anything that they are asked to do. The parent may leave the kid a list to do while the parent is at work. The kid does some of the things and puts their butt back in the chair in front of the TV. They spend about 25 minutes on the list completing 18 percent of it. When asked by the parent why they did not finish, they say it is their ADD. Once again, totally the parents fault. If the kid actually had ADD, there is no way they would be able to sit in from of the TV and not move for hours upon hours without getting up.

The big problem- The biggest problem the couple is going to have in this situation is that it is eventually going to start to get to the adult that is not the kids parent. Parents are blind sometimes when it comes to their kids. Who picks up the slack when the kids parent is to tired to complete the tasks the child should be doing? The other part of the couple. And if the other half of the couple does not do it, who gets the wrath of it not being complete? The other part of the couple instead of the kid where the blame should be directed and rightly so.

Can the other part of the duo speak up and voice their opinion? absolutely. Will it work? Probably not. When you come down on someone else's kid for something, a parent will get defensive. It is only natural. This can lead to a big fight that is the cause of a lazy kid that does not feel they have to do anything. It can lead to a break up of a couple to.

There you have it. A few obstacles of a blended family.
